Subaru's horizontally opposed engines are unique, and they have known characteristics to watch. Head gasket concerns on older EJ-series engines — particularly the 2.5L in Outbacks and Foresters from the late 1990s through mid-2000s — are well documented. The FB-series engines used in 2012 and newer models are more robust, but still benefit from careful coolant maintenance. Subaru's CVT fluid should be changed on a real-world interval, not the optimistic factory recommendation, especially for vehicles in hilly terrain. We also service Subaru's EyeSight and driver-assist systems using compatible calibration tools.
